Optical shop software that knows a lens job from a line item.
Optocore is billing, stock, lens orders, prescriptions and GST for an Indian optical shop — with WhatsApp built into the same system, not bought from a second vendor.
Frame at 18% and lens at 5% on one invoice. A lab job you can find at four in the afternoon. A recall that goes out on the twelfth month by itself. From ₹2,500 a year.
Why general billing software does not fit
Four things an optical shop does that a retail POS has no idea about.
Any billing app can put a price against a barcode. These four are where a generic tool stops being useful, and they are most of what an optician does between ten and eight.
One invoice, two rates
The GST on a pair of glasses is not one number
Since 22 September 2025 a corrective spectacle under heading 9004 is at 5%, spectacle and contact lenses under 9001 are at 5%, and frames under 9003 are billed at 18%. A frame-plus-lens sale is therefore two rates on one bill, and a tool that allows one tax per invoice makes you choose which one to get wrong. Our own ERP says 76% of spectacle bills carry two GST rates. The full classification, including the part that is genuinely disputed, is in our HSN and GST reference for optical shops.
The record is the power
A customer is a prescription with a history
Right and left, sphere, cylinder, axis, addition, PD — with the date it was taken and who took it. That record is what makes the customer yours: it is the reason they come back to you rather than to whoever is nearest, and it is the thing a spreadsheet stores worst. See what a prescription record has to hold.
A job with a life
The order does not end when the bill is printed
It goes to the lab, comes back, gets fitted, gets checked, gets collected — and on an average 8.6-day wait, only 43% of it is the lab. The other 57% never leaves the shop. Software that closes the sale at payment cannot tell you where a job is, which is the question customers actually ring about. See where the other 57% goes.
Twelve months later
The next sale is already in your database
An eye test is due about a year after the last one, and a shop that does not ask gets the sale taken by a shop that does. Repeat customers are roughly a fifth of the names on the book and about a third of the orders. A recall that depends on someone remembering to open a list is a recall that does not happen.
What is in it
The counter, the lab, the stock room and the books.
One login, one customer record, one set of numbers at month end. Nothing here is a module you buy separately from someone else.
Billing and the till
GST invoices with the right HSN and rate per line, part cash and part UPI on one bill, barcode scanning, returns, repairs and credit notes. The till keeps taking sales when the internet drops and settles up when it comes back. Bill format and what must legally appear on it: the invoice format for an optical shop.
Lens orders and the lab desk
Raise the order against the prescription, send it to the lab, track it through fitting and quality check, and see what the lab quoted against what it invoiced. Lab rate cards and lab payables included from the Stock plan.
Stock that tells you the truth
Frames, sunglasses, lenses and contact lenses with powers and boxes, purchases and suppliers, and dead-stock reporting — because most optical stock is one of a kind and reorder points designed for FMCG do not apply.
GST returns and the books
Cash book, ledger, profit by product and by salesperson, and GSTR-1, 3B and CMP-08 built from the bills you already raised — regular or composition, with IGST handled on an out-of-state sale.
Payroll and incentives
Attendance, leave, salary structure and payslips, plus incentive rules that read from the till — so a salesperson's commission is calculated from what they actually sold rather than from a notebook.
More than one shop
Per-branch GSTIN and bill numbering, stock transfers between branches, chain reports and per-branch roles. On the Growth plan, which is not on public sale yet — ask us and we will onboard you by hand.
The difference
WhatsApp that fires on an event, not on a broadcast list.
This is the part a billing tool plus a separate WhatsApp platform cannot do at any price: the two never share data, so the message that matters still gets typed by hand. These are real triggers.
- bill raisedThe invoice and the prescription card reach the customer's phone before they reach the door.
- lens job readySent the moment the lab marks it, not the evening somebody gets round to calling.
- job delayedThey hear the new date from you first, which is the difference between a wait and a complaint.
- prescription turns 12 monthsThe eye-test recall goes out by itself, to everybody due, every day.
- order collectedOne review request, at the only moment the customer is actually pleased.
- balance outstandingA reminder carrying the bill number, so chasing money stops being a personal favour.
Messages go through your own WhatsApp Business number and are billed at Meta's rate card, at cost, off a wallet you top up. Nothing is bundled into the plan price, so a busy month costs you more in messages and nothing more in subscription.
What it costs

Getting started
Coming off Marg, a spreadsheet or a register.
The real reason shops stay on software they dislike is that moving looks like losing ten years of customers. We move your customers, products, stock and outstanding balances across before the trial starts, so the first screen you open has your shop in it and not an empty table. Nobody is asked to type a customer list again.
If you are still deciding between vendors rather than between plans, the honest version is written down: a buyer's guide to optical shop software in India, including the seven things to make any vendor demonstrate live before you pay, a side-by-side comparison with OptoSoft, Vyapar and myBillBook, and what actually breaks when you run an optical shop on a generic billing tool.
Questions opticians ask
Before you start the trial.
Does it handle a frame and a lens at different GST rates on one bill?
Yes — that is the default, not a setting. Each line carries its own HSN and rate, so a frame at 18% and a lens at 5% sit on the same invoice and the tax summary splits correctly for GSTR-1.
Will the counter keep working if the internet goes down?
Yes. The till queues sales offline and settles them when the connection returns, so a broadband outage does not close the shop.
Can I bring my existing customers and stock across?
Yes. Import is included from the Stock plan upwards, and for a shop moving from another system we do the migration for you before the trial starts.
Do I need a separate WhatsApp tool?
No. Optocore sends through your own WhatsApp Business number on Meta's official API. You pay Meta's per-message rate at cost from a wallet; there is no second subscription and no per-message markup.
Is it built for India?
It is built for nothing else — GST with HSN per line, composition and regular schemes, IGST on out-of-state sales, rupees, and Indian optical practice from lens powers to lab jobs.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
You keep reading it. A shop past its billing date goes read-only rather than locked out, so your GST records stay available, and export is open on every plan including a cancelled one.
